Pre-School Cygnets and Swans Rooms

The Pre-School Rooms are designed for children aged two and half to school age. We work on a ratio of one member of staff to four children (under three years) and one member of staff to eight children (over three years). Each member of staff is assigned a Key Worker group and will make observations, plans and lead a parents' evening for the children in their care.

We know that building a good relationship with the children in our care is vital for the child's physical, social and emotional health and wellbeing thereby allowing them to explore the world around them from a secure and nurturing environment. Children who still require a sleep during the day can go to the sleep area in the Butterfly Room which is a cosy and relaxing environment.

All our planning starts with observing children to understand and consider their unique interests, development and learning. Children access a free flow play environment throughout the day with activities available both indoors and outside to challenge and support each child and, to promote and encourage learning and development in the following seven areas:

• Communication and Language • Physical Development • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

• Literacy • Mathematics • Understanding the world • Expressive arts and design.
